The Atari 2600 was Jim’s first home gaming experience at his pal, Dave Freeman’s house in 1979. With single button controls and a woodgrain feature – it was furniture you could play with.
That stack of black cartridges provided his favourite arcade games at the time: Space Invaders, Star Wars, Asteroids and Empire Strikes Back, all on a colour T.V.
Atari has built up quite a retro following some 30 years on and just because it’s not modern doesn’t mean it’s not good. If the iPad is your downtown Dubai then this Atari is Jim’s Bastakia.
Catch a glimpse of the artwork while it’s still up and running at the Media One hotel. March 3rd-30th 2013. Just don’t get invaded while you’re there!
