Auction did you say? Well,What started as a tip-off from a dear friend stating ‘Your artwork would work really well in the Fine Art auction there, Jim’….
Led to me heading to London and knocking on the door of Lots Road Auctions, Chelsea and introducing myself presenting my Bio of work to date…..
Making your own path
Continually carving out my own path as Art tells as story, looking for that ‘somewhere different’ in London. I was partly there with the on-going residency at L’Escargot, Soho…..
Residency at L’escargot, Soho, London
As a positioning venue rather than a place where purveyors of contemporary art pass on the delightful snails starter only to invest in the work of Art with a story….
So it’s been on my agenda, to build on what started in Dubai and it’s sandy surreal climbs……
…and to find an outlet to sell some limited edition prints, somewhere authentic, alternative, eclectic and magnificent in an established part of the World. Lots Road auctions in Chelsea, isn’t your ordinary stuffy auction house….
It’s full of eclectic collectables and characters, both staff and bidders alike!
Providing great medicine for one pursuing the self-promoting world of the Arts in fear of being left on the scrap here or collected when I’ve long gone….
Given that while he was alive, Vincent Van Gogh to be one of the greatest and most influential painters of all time received little to no recognition during his lifetime. His paintings were often described as being too dark and lacking the bright liveliness seen in Impressionist paintings of the time. Van Gogh produced more than 900 paintings during his lifetime, but only sold one painting, Red Vineyard at Arles…..
The only Artwork Van Gogh sold when he was alive
Artists don’t always receive the attention and praise they want when they want it. Some of the most beloved and influential artists in history struggled to get their masterpieces noticed and sold during their lifetime, only to become famous after their death. These artists pushed the envelope with unorthodox styles, techniques and genres that were rejected and criticized at the time, but proved to be successful and widely admired later on……
What with social media, collaborations and my love of people in general then thankfully, to date I’ve sold in the order of fifty originals and sixty prints with 10 going to worthy causes along the way!
So, back to the drive to be seen and to be sold during my waking years, my friend had seen The Auction House on British T.V and made the connection – here’s one of the episodes if you’ve time to watch…..
When I got to Lots Road auctions, it was meeting Senior Director and head auctioneer Nick Carter who gave me a heart-on-sleeve option of what may work in their Fine Art Auctions…..
and despite not ‘taking on a living Artist for the last 3 years’ suggested I was to present several prints in one of their 4-6 weekly feature auctions under the category of :

So works from the 2013 Money Collection, a Frank Sinatra commissioned print and and a few of the Disruptives have been selected to feature so let’s see where it takes us…..
Is it a bird, is it a plane? No it’s Superman from the Money Collection
